Long Tom patches 1.0 is for TVS3s with operating programs prior to version 2.4.2 (i.e. all those that do not display a version number at turn on. This is for all systems up to serial number 03026, except for those who have upgraded their system). They can be loaded with all versions of the TVS3 Patcher program up to and including version 1.4.4.

Long Tom Patches Version 2.0

Long Tom patches 2.0 is for those who have upgraded to version 2.4.2 of the TVS3 operating program and all TVS3s from serial number 03027 onwards (which allows variable wow and flutter, and also provides for more rapid loading of a new patch). It can only be loaded with the corresponding version 1.5.0 of the TVS3 Patcher program.

TVS3 Operating System version 2.4.2

TVS3 users who want variable wow and flutter and/or more rapid loading of a new patch (useful when used in live performance) can update their TVS3 operating system to version 2.4.2 by replacing two chips in the TVS and changing some jumpers (no soldering is required).

The upgrade is done by removing the TVS3 top cover, removing the two chips from their sockets on the main circuit board and replacing them with the new chips supplied. One plug-in jumper is also removed and replaced by two others. Full instructions are provided with the chips. Copies of the new Patcher program version 1.5.0 required to operate with the new TVS3 operating system) can then be downloaded from the web site. Note that doing this upgrade will result in the loss of any patches that the user might have written and stored in the TVS3. These will have to be reloaded again using the updated Patcher program.

Note also that TVS3 Patcher program versions up to and including 1.4.4 will only work with TVS3 operating systems prior to 2.4.2 ( i.e. those that do not display any version number at start-up) , and TVS3 Patcher program version 1.5.0 will only work properly with version 2.4.2 (displayed at start-up). So there is no point updating the TVS3 Patcher program beyond version 1.4.4 without the corresponding upgrade of the TVS3 operating system chips. The only difference in sound is the availability of varying the amount of Wow and Flutter. Most people will probably not this additional capability and so should not bother with the upgrade (unless they want the more rapid loading of patches).
